Dr. Sudhir Mahajan
IAS( Retd) Assumes Charge of Chief Executive of NCUI
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, IAS( Retd) has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of NCUI. He has taken over the charge w.e.f. 01.03.2021. Having Doctorate Degree in Radiation Genetics from JNU, Dr Mahajan also holds LLB Degree from Delhi University.
Dr. Mahajan, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 2005 Batch of AGMUT Cadre, recently retired as Secretary, General Administration Department, Delhi Government. In his long illustrious career, Shri Mahajan has handled multiple responsibilities successfully. As Secretary to Minister in Delhi Govt. (2002-2010), Shri Mahajan aided, advised and guided Hon’ble Minister in various portfolios like Education, Cooperatives, Urban Development, Environment etc. and formed an important bridge between Department and the Minister.
Later as Secretary, Women and Child and Information and Publicity (Goa Govt.), Dr. Mahajan successfully hosted International Film Festival of India 2015. As Chairman Smart City(Goa Govt), he undertook major initiatives to make Panjim, a smart and citizen friendly city. As Secretary, Industries (Goa Govt.), he created favourable ecosystem for traders/industrialists to do business by implementing Ease of Doing Business, GOI’s Programme. Due to his initiative, Goa’s ranking in business reform improved from 22 to 62 in a year. As Secretary, Urban Development( Goa Govt), he took initiatives to implement all Missions of GOI like Swacch Bharat Mission, National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), Prime Minister Avas Yojana. As Secretary ( Provedoria), Goa Govt, he uplifted the conditions of old age homes by involving business leaders/industry through CSR activities and also sensitized them for adopting these homes. In the challenging times of lockdown from March, 2020 to August 2020, Dr Mahajan was appointed as Andaman & Nicobar Islands Nodal Officer-Covid 19, for interstate transportation of the stranded personnel to and fro from A &N Islands. He also acted as Coordinating Officer for Union Territory for maintenance of essential supplies across the far-flung and remotely located islands of the Union Territory. Both the tasks were extremely challenging due to remoteness of island, limited means of transportation, etc. However, despite the challenges, he successfully ensured transportation of a total of 7,288 stranded passengers to and fro from islands to the mainland and coordinated transportation of essential cargo and POL to 38 inhabited islands of Union Territory.
As far as major highlights of Dr Mahajan’s international exposure are concerned, Dr Mahajan attended a Global Warming- Industry Intervention conference in Vancouver(Canada). He visited Munich, Germany, Valencia and Barcelona, Spain; Paris and Toulouse, France to study the concept of Integrated Facility Management Systems for reducing the post-harvest losses of fruits and vegetables. He visited Australia, Christchurch and Wellington, New Zealand and Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast, Australia for studying cooperative related issues in these countries. He also visited South Korea on World Bank sponsored Smart City Project as a Chairman, Smart City, Panjim, Goa. We wish him all the best in his new role.
